SUMBA Island - Indonesia
Sumba is an island which has least contact with the outside world until the early of 20th century. It made Sumba the biggest island in Indonesia in the number of traditional villages preserved well until present days.
Marapu is a belief system which rules Sumba life. It is the reason why traditional villages are alive. Christianity did not change Sumba but enrich it through modern education. The similarity of concepts such as the presence of life after death made Marapu blend well with Christianity. Most of Sumbanese are registered as Christians either Protestant or Catholic.
Fencing Indian Ocean with no volcanic activities, provides Sumba with beautiful white sandy beaches almost in all of it shore lines. Sumba's south coast which borders to Indian Ocean offers world class surfing spots and game fishing destination.
Cultural events such as Pasola held regularly every year on the months of February and March. Whilst Eastern part of Sumba women produces one of the most beautiful Ikat - the handwoven traditional textiles in the world. Known as Sumba Ikat.
The beautiful Sumba traditional villages are scattered almost throughout of the island. Sumba house architecture is one of the genuine Native Indonesia Architectures.
Sumba is only 1 hour flight from Bali by turboprop airplanes yet it is least explored.

Airport: there are two airports on Sumba Island, Waingapu in the east and Tambolaka in the western part. They are only 178 km apart, well-connected with the smooth paved roads.

Road: main roads are all smooth paved, whilst artery roads are accessible by land transport

Telecommunication: cellular phone communication is available at the most part of the island. The internet capability connection only available in towns.
Tourism Amenities: Sumba is most likely become resort investment darling as there are more world class resorts being added to the island.
