Sulawesi
Explore the K shapped Island of Indonesia

Geologically Sulawesi Island which also known as Celebes in world history - never being part of  either Sunda Shelf in its west or Sahul Shelf in its east. Both Sunda and Sahul Shelf being part of Asia or Australia. But not Sulawesi.

It made Sulawesi Island home to many endemic fauna which do not exist at any parts of the world. Babirusa, Maleo, Anoa and Tarsius Spectrum (the smallest primate in the world) just some to mention.

Culturally, Sulawesi is home to many ethnic groups. Toraja, Makassar, Bugis and Minahasa are the four main ethnic which occupy the Island. Anthropologically these ethnic groups arrived in different phase of time. Toraja which occupy the hinterland of Sulawesi believed to be arrived earlier. Whilst the rest arrive later on.

Yet there are at least two Lost Civilization of Indonesia found on the Island. Deep in the plateau of Central Sulawesi there are numbers of stone statues and carved stones scattered in three different valleys. No one knows who the statues belong to.

Waters around Sulawesi bear rich sea nutrients hence the Island hold World Class Dive Spots. Bunaken National Marine Park at the northern side of the Island, Togian Islands National Marine Park in the Gulf of Tomini in the middle and Wakatobi National Marine Park on its south east
